In addition to moisturizing shampoos and conditioners, you could also try a once-a-week intensive treatment of mineral oil (baby oil) rubbed on the scalp and left on over night. Be sure to put a towel over your pillow, because it can be messy. You will have to shampoo twice to get it out, but I found it to be helpful.

You may also want see what is causing this. For instance, my husband was doing construction and couldn't figure out why he was getting particularly bad dandruff. Eventually he realized that the dust from the drywall was aggravating his scalp. From then on he made sure to wear a hat an from then on, it was much better.

Dry scalp is rare. A diet deficient in fats and oils can cause it.
If your diet contains even a small amount of fats or oils it is unlikely you have a dry scalp.
You may have seborrhea which is a fancy name for dandruff. Selsun blue 1% shampoo on a regular basis is usually sufficient to treat seborrhea.

You absolutely must moisturize your hair..use the correct shampoos and conditioners for your hair type. Also, a good rule of thumb is to drink a ton of water (minimally 8 8-oz.glasses per day). I think a lot of folks don't realize the positive effects water has on your skin/scalp.

I have seborreah - crusty, flakey scalp - which is caused by a virus. My dermatologist recommened a medicated shampoo with zink or tar. I use Neutrogena T/Gel shampoo w/conditioner. Works great. Nothing will cure seborreah, but the shampoo keeps the symptoms under control.

a good shampoo and conditioner could fix that. try sunslik for dry/thirtsy hair. it's the one in the pink bottle. when conditioning your hair, use extra conditioner and massage your scalp for a few minutes with the conditioner. leave it in for another few minutes then rinse. you could also try a hair mask or deep conditioner.
