Split ends are usually the result of excessive or rough handling of your hair (ie - regularly using heat, rough brushing and/ or combing). You can reduce split ends by getting regular trims (I trim every 2-3 months or as needed), treating your hair gently, and making sure it is always conditioned and moisturized.

Split ends are caused by damage done by:
blowdryers
curling irons
straightening irons
hair coloring products
You can keep split ends in check with proper hair maintenance: Trim, trim, trim. What you don't want to happen is have your hair split all the way up the shaft, rendering that hair ruined. To keep hair conditioned in the meantime, you'll need to deep condition once a week.
Tame split ends with a styling cream and if it's really time for a haircut, pulling hair back in a loose bun will hide all those nasty ends

you probably need to get your hair trimmed. after hair grows for a while, the ends get unkempt and start frizzing and splitting. just get an inch or half cut off and it should be okay. be sure to use smoothing shampoo and lots of conditioner.
