I've never cooked a turkey but I am going to do it tomorrow. I know there are instuctions printed on it, but I'd rather learn from someone who has actually done it before! I need step by step, don't-skip-a-thing kind of instructions, or I'll find a way to foul it up - I'm blonde. :)

THANK YOU AND MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Clean your turkey and rinse out the cavity (take the neck and giblets out of the cavity that is put in there during packaging and either use for another recipe or discard). Dry it with paper towels. Season it how you would like. Some people also rub Liquid Smoke on it. You can buy it on the spice aisle at the grocery store. It is a bottle of brownish-black liquid called "Liquid Smoke". Gives a back turkey a smokey flavor. That is your choice, though. Place it breast side down in a roasting dish. Place it in the oven. Cook it for ONE HOUR PER EVERY FOUR POUNDS OF MEAT (ex. 12 lb [lb stands for "pound"] turkey will cook for 3 hours). Some people place foil paper over the ends of the turkey legs so they dont get too dark than the rest of the turkey during cooking. Check it every so often during roasting and make sure you baste it so it wont dry out. This means taking a spoon and drizzling the juices that will collect in the bottom of the pan over the turkey while it is cooking to ensure it will be juicy. It is done when the turkey is 165 degrees inside if you have a food thermometer, or the allotted amount of baking time is up.

Hope this helps. And sweetie, your being blonde has nothing to do with it, many people have not baked a turkey. Once you get a couple under your belt, you will learn to do your own little special tricks to them to make them taste soooo good your family will just want the recipe. Keep your secrets to yourself. :)

Merry Christmas!!!

there's not really a certain way to cook a turkey.

All you do pretty much is butter it real good wiht your hands or a butter brush, season it how you want and put it in the oven...(make sure you clean it first though and take the insides out) you'll know it's done when the red dot that's put in it pops out...keep and eye on it ever 30 mins or so...put a little water in the bottome of the roasting pan with some butter so it doesn't stick...and if you do stuffing in your turkey, add the stuffing. some people put aluminum foil over the turkey to help brown it and others just leave it uncovered...either way works.

I cook butter ball alll the time, first, wash the turkey with cold water, if you are stuffing it, do it just before you put it in the oven. Never stuff a turkey and let it sit over night. Bacteria builts up. You cook it for an hour for every 4 pounds. Covered! for the last 15 minutes, take the cover off so it will brown. Butter ball usually have a tester in them, when it pops out you know the turkey is done. Oh, use a 350 oven. Your are welcome and have a Merry Christmas yourself.

Clean it very good.
Season with butter[ under the skin ] and on top, season salt, pepper, poultry seasonong .
Add an orange [ cut in half] and an onion to the insides. It helps it keep it's shape.
Put Oj in the bottom and roast at 425 for 20 minutes.Turn the temp down and cook at 325 @20 minutes per pound.
I make a nice basting sauce of OJ, wine , butter, and veggies.Baste often.
Make sure to let it sit about a half an hour before cutting.
Good luck.

Preheat the oven to 325 degrees.

Take out your turkey, in the sink, preferably, and remove the bag of innards. Discard or use for gravy (I don't use it).

There are MANY way to prep a turkey. Here's how I do it.

Pat the turkey dry with paper towels

Cover in butter very well.

Place in roasting bag (you don't HAVE to do this, but it speeds up your cook time, and it is SO juicy)

Make sure if you use a bag to poke holes in it.

Put turkey into preheated oven for recommended time. There should be a guideline on your turkey bag to tell you how long to cook for your poundage. If you use a bag, it will cook faster.

If you DON'T use a bag, cover with tin foil before placing it in the oven. This works fine.

With the butter, there is no need to baste during cooking.

Good luck to you-making a turkey is fun!!

Once you rinse & pat dry with a paper towel, take a jar of hellman's mayo and coat that bird thickly with the mayo and cook it upside down (breast down) and cook at 325 for the recommended time for the weight of the bird. I know that this sounds ever so nasty but trust this, your breast meat will be more moist than even the dark meat. It will not look like a golden brown turkey but the moistness of the meat is not like any bird you have ever put in your mouth before. If you stuff your bird you can still do that and you still cook it upside down. Don't knock it until you try it. My daughter now only cooks her turkey this way, but she also thought that this sounded nasty but she will not cook a turkey any other way since that first time trying this recipe of mine (old school) TRY IT YOU MIGHT REALLY LIKE IT!!
