It could be gas, and it could be something else. Laying the child on his right side will help with gas pains - so maybe try to get him to sleep in a side-sleeper on the right side. I would also suggest that dietary changes might be a good idea. So many kids these days have trouble with cow's dairy, wheat, and sugars (particularly artificial sweeteners and processed sugar). We switched our kids to goat cheese and rice dream milk, spelt, rice or oat bread and pasta, and organic sugar and Xylitol (an natural sugar substitute) and we feel like they are a lot healthier and happier for it.
I do have a sister in law who has a child that wakes with night terrors every night - but that didn't start until he was 5 or maybe even 7 - so I would think that not likely. Another thing you might consider is to have him sleep with you. I imagine that sounds scary, but if you could have him in your bed, you could be sure he was on his right side (if gas is the problem) and just being next to you might soothe him enough that he is not afraid if there is something like that going on. You might also want to consult a health care practitioner for their input.
Peace!

Oh the poor baby! Don't panic as it does seem like he has colic.
Please bring this to the attention of the Pediatrician as there is medication that will relieve these symptoms. Yes gas problems can last a long time, if it only happens at night then it really sounds like gas, however call the Pediatrician to rule out any other medical conditions. Good Luck.

My son is 14 months, and also going through the same!!! And I'm having a very hard time getting him in his bed! I'll get him rocked to sleep, and lay him down in his crib, and he arches his back and stands up crying. He too has gas problems... so after the holidays we are gonna call the nurse line. My son was colic at birth until 2 1/2 months- I don't think this is colic now- Colic is crying non stop for a couple of hours or more at a time- and NOTHING works to get them to stop crying..... for this, we usually can get him to stop... and this seems to be more gas than anything.... so we give him Mylicon drops- it doesn't help that much, but sometimes it really does.
My son used to LOVE his room, and now he cries and cries and just will not sleep in his bed- I try so many times! Last night, I was up from 4am to 6am with him trying to get him to sleep in his crib, and it just didn't work, and I was really exhausted from working late, so I had to resort to putting him in bed with me. It helps some, but I don't get any sleep that way either.
See what happens when you stand up with your son. If I do that, he will stop crying and start asking what everything is, saying "what's that" But the second I sit down with him, it's like his tummy hurts really bad and he will scream. But yes, we will be calling the nurse and try to see if there is something we can do after the holidays. Hopefully we'll find something out.
Goodluck to you guys! It's really wearing me down, I feel like I don't get any sleep at all!

Going thru the same thing!
I was going to do some research and see if maybe this is the age where they start to be more aware of their surroundings and may be getting scared at night.....separation from Mom and Dad, shadows from the nightlights....that sort of stuff.
It will be great when they can start talking and let us know what is going on!!
God Bless and I hope you get some good sleep over the Christmas break!

You might want your doctor to look into sleep terrors too. Gas could be the problem though try gas drops and take out foods that cause him gas. Hot dogs and to much juice can cause gas and so can milk in some kids. Find out what foods are triggering it for him and take them out. Good luck I will pray for you.

Sounds like night terrors to me. There isn't anything you can do for them. It is a phase they go through and eventually grow out of.
Good luck my daughter had them and she would scream for a good 30 minutes!

My daughter did this most of her lifetime....it was night terrors with her...which led to passing out...which led to sleep walking. Have a sleep study done. Ask the doc he'll tell you what's best.
