yes, dental assistants do make good money! but, it also depends on the dentist. (since he's the one that pays you) i was in dental assisting school in 2001, and while i was in school, i got a job working as an assistant, and that dentist would only pay me 6.50 an hour untill i got my license. i took the job because i wanted the experience, but once i got my license, he wouldnt give me a raise! i had my dental assisting license, and my dental radiology license! and he only wanted to pay me 6.50 an hour for two years of school, and about 2,000 dollars to pay for it, i dont think so! be careful in which dentist you work for, some are jerks! but yes, most definatley dental assistants make good money! i had another job after that making 18 bucks an hour, and that was straight out of high school! (i went to vocational school my junior and senior year) so yeah, go for it!

I worked in a dental office as a lab tech in Oklahoma and the assistants (after 6 months of school) started at $7.50/hour and could make upwards of $11.00/hour max. Dental Hygienists (four year degree) however could start with no experience at about $20/hour and work up to about $35/hour. The assistants work directly with and under the dentist...the hygienist works w/out supervision and is responsible (usually) for developing her own clientele and schedules.

Jeez Louise! Move to Boston!
Do a zip code search at http://www.careerbuilders.com or http://www.monster.com or http://www.payscale.com You can also check with the US Department of Labor at http://www.bls.gov/
By the time we are done with bonus and all, my assistants make $27-28,000 a year in rural South Jersey.

oh yes, my cousin was in college at a tech to become a dentist. during school she was considered a dental assistant. and they would have the students bring in their family members to practise on our teeth. i know that may sound wrong, 'practise' but my cousin was actually very good. and when she graduated shortly after she bought a house. so yeah, they make good money.
