Tell him that you have something important to tell him, just between you two.
Tell him that although you know that he loves you, you do not feel the same, and are trying to be kind before it goes any farther. Tell him that you appreciate the attention, and do not want to hurt him, but it will only be worse if you wait.
Tell him that you feel that you have little in common, and that there is a girl for him with much closer interests, and he will find her if he keeps looking.
Tell him that you are sorry if it hurts him, but you are serious, and being truthful.
Then listen.
No, it won't be easy. Don't give in, it won't work.
Be polite but assertive.
Let him have his say.
Don't say "Let's just be friends," that's the kiss of death. Just be considerate.
End it. Now.

Just tell him outright "I am sorry, but I am just not interested in persuing a relationship." It will suck for him, but it is better in the long run. The worst thing you can do to a guy is to make up some BS reason. We generally know when women are doing that and it is just insulting. On a side note... what is wrong with loving computers? That comes in handy sometimes. :)

Just tell him the truth. Tell him you think he's a nice guy, but you would only like to be friends. Your not interested in anything serious right now (I don't know if that's the case) and that your interest are very different. Be polite. I'm sure he will understand.

Just say what you told me. Tell him that you know he really likes you, but you don't feel the same way about him. Tell him that he is to serious and you guys don't have anything in common. This will work, if you tell him that you guys can be friends i don't think he will get mad. If he likes you enough, I think he will do anything just to friends with you.

THere is no way to let a person down gently, but you can be understanding when you tell him that you only want to be his friend and nothing more.
Don't lie to him though, I used to hate it when girls would tell me excuses why they couldn't go out with me instead of just owning up to the fact they didn't like me that way.
Just tell him, gently as you can, that you don't have feelings for him that way and let him mope about it for awhile then he'll get over it.

There is no way of being too "nice" about telling someone you dont like them. You need to talk to him - have a frank discussion about your feelings and gently tell him that perhaps you aren't right for each other.
Tell him now. Before its too late, before things get too serious for him!

Just tell him your not going to get seriously involved with anyone right now because you have a career to think about. Don't take no for an answer.
