You need some recording software. You can try the windows recorder in accessories, entertainment but it may not produce the quality you want.

Well, I believe you are not a computer geek or else this question wouldn't have come up from you. Becuase a computer geek knows by common sense that for converting tape format to MP3 format what you will need is not a software, but a HARDWARE. Its called a tape drive. You have a floppy disk, the only way how yo could transfer it to your PC is by using what we call as a Floppy drive.

But there are other devices available in the market which will convert tape format to MP3 format. Check this link & good luck.

Take the audio tape play it in the air and the MP3 recorder will record and convert. You have to operate the audio and Mp3. The computer will convert the audio tape to MP3. Am I right!

hmmm.. your question dont have enough infos.. but anyway.. recording through line is quite easy.. i can't find any issue why you cannot record your song.. maybe you should reinstall your audio driver.. or check if you are really using the line-in port.. there are three ports in there, line-in, mic-in, and line-out.. so be sure that you are REALLY using line-in... then use a software that will record any sound that will be produced by your PC.. you check on the site below for a trial of the BEST recording software there is ever!!! then buy it if you liked it..

like others said, you can 'play' & record, but you wont get quality with that, u will record echos & other noises in the room.

Connect speaker output of your tape player to your line-in back of your computer.
use musicmatch jukebox & record directly to mp3.
you have to experiment a little to choose the right volume coming out from your tape player.

You need to 'capture' the sound with a program that does this. Most versions of Nero captures sound and or video.
I use Roxio EZ CD Creator to do this.

Audacity can do it. Make sure it is set to "What you hear" before trying to record. It will export to mp3 also.
