I'v heard two things that are supposed to help.
Human hair, but that works best for keeping rabbits away from plants.
Or, lemon juice. Dogs hate the smell of lemon juice. You could try getting some lemon smelling cleaner or lemon juice and spraying it at the base of the tree.
I hope I helped you!

Dogs usually smell the tree or whatever it is they plan to pee on before they pee on it. You can get dog repellant (yup!) and put some on the tree or you can just do the old fashioned conditioning method. Every time your dog does it (or is about to do it) correct him and let him know that this tree is special and is not for peeing on. Dogs can understand that as long as you are consistent and firm.

Teach him no or put a gate around the tree or even keep the dog out of the same room as the tree. My cats try to climb our artificial tree. We have a spray bottle they dont like with water so now thy dont climb the tree.

If your dog is not neutered you should get that done. That usually helps with the territory marking. Also they sell animal repellant that you can't smell but the dog can so I would try that. I have four dogs, so I know what you are going through;)

Spray the tree with something to repel dogs like peppermint oil or Cayenne pepper.

Saying no usually works - especially if the dog is housetrained. If your dog is not controlled, keep him out of the room when you're not there! Easy.
