It's called a mezzuzah. It holds a small paper scroll with the words of the Shema prayer written on it in Hebrew.
Mezzuzahs fullfill the command to keep the laws of God on the doorposts of our homes.

It is called a Mazusa (not sure of the spelling), and it contains a small copy of the books of law, which they follow. It is touched going in or out, as reminder to them to follow the laws. Jewish males usually wear one on a chain around their neck too.

It's a mezuzah and it reminds them of God! There's a prayer inside, I think it's called the 'Shema', but I'm not sure!

I think they are called "doors". The main difference is that in a Jewish household, when someone knocks they say "Oy ve, who's there"
