Dispute the ticket. On the back of your ticket (or somewhere on your ticket) there should be a phone number for the court. Call that number and tell them that you weren't speeding. They'll set a court date. Go to the court date. First, if the cop doesn't show, you automatically win. Second, if you can convince the judge that you weren't speeding and that you didn't do anything wrong, he'll drop it.

You've got a perfect driving record right now, and I would fight to keep it. Here, in Michigan, if you get a ticket and dispute it, usually at very least they'll reduce the charge. In your case, to reduce it would be to dismiss it.

EDITED TO ADD:
As far as your parents go...I'd tell them that you got this ticket, but it's crap. You're fighting it because you value the priveledge that is your license and you aren't going to let some cop with a pissy attitude destroy your record. If your parents are paying your insurance, chances are they'll help you fight the ticket.

I'm surprised that you were cited for 30 in a 25 in a city. In most urban areas, the police don't have enough time to get that picky and are just happy to keep traffic flowing. I wouldn't be terribly upset with my child. Unless there were other circumstances, then I would say that you were just unlucky.

Start by going to dmv.org and make sure you understand how traffic violations are handled in your state. Also call the circuit clerk's office for the county of the violation and ask them for the procedure or direction. They will not be able to provide legal advice, but they may provide general information about the process. You probably will want to and will likely be able to opt for traffic school or court supervision to keep the violation from being reported on your driving record (which your insurance company may view).

Nobody in this forum should know how to communicate with your parents better than you. In general, I would suggest knowing every detail about how you will handle the court process and avoid harm to your record and insurance rates before approaching your parents. I personally believe that your violation is not serious, and revoking your driving privelages will not help to make you a better driver. This process will help you to understand a little bit about your court system.

30 in a 25? Was it a school zone? Work zone? Because that is the only reason you wouldn't get a warning instead of a ticket for that speed. If it was in one of those zones, you are probably one of the people I flip off on a daily basis. Slow down. If it wasn't, take it to court and you can probably get it reduced to a warning.

Man, I'd just tell them. They are bound to find out. The sooner you tell them, the quicker your punishment will be over. They will get more angry if you try to hide it. Might want to wait after Christmas though. 30 in a 25 sounds like a rookie cop most cops will give 5 to 10 miles over.

Having raised kids of my own, I would tell your parents. True, they will be pissed, but its better to tell them now and let them chew you out and ground you from driving the car for alittle while, then they find out down the road. I would rather chew you out now and get it over with, then find out down the road that you didn't tell me. Your punishment would be alot worse, then now.
Since its a traffic infraction, I would pay the ticket. It ruins you driving record, but pay it and move on, by slowing down.

most states have on your first ticket ,, go to traffic school, pay court cost,,, and you will not have a record......
but above all be honest with your parents and tell them the truth,, you will be glad you did,,, you now have a drivers license and you must accept all the responabilty that goes with it....

above all be honest with your parents, always
we all have rules that we must live by as you are given more freedoms to make choices ,,, then more is expected of you...
good luck
tell your parents

just tell them....don't make excuses....just do it..... don't wait for them to corner you when their insurance rates increase. Waiting around will only make it worse.
