Your daughter is right.
Bar the lone ah
the th is pronounced as in "thought". Any "z" or a "c" before e, i, or u is pronounced "th". (before "a" and "o", the "c" is pronounced as "k".
Spanish in Latin America pronounces the "c
" as "ss" instead of "th".
I lived 18 years in Spain after having learned Spanish from Latin Americans, so am familiar with both forms.
EDIT:
The proper pronunciation of the word in Catalan is:
Bar suh lone uh (The "uh" sound would be an abomination in Spanish)

That's the(European) Spanish pronounciation all right. However, Barcelona natives speak Catalan and the Catalan pronounciation is Bar-SAH-lona.

That's right - in Castilian Spanish, a "c" followed by "e" or "i" is pronounced like the "th" in "thin". In Catalan, much spoken in Barcelona, the "c" is pronounced like "s".
