No a meat thermoter has a metal probe that goes in the meat and a candy thermoeter is usually glass that goes into the hot liquid. The meat thermometer does not go as high as a candy thermometer.

No! A meat thermometer is normally made of metal with a point for putting into the meat and has a heatproof cover. A candy thermometer is made of glass and can't go in the oven. It is meant for putting into liquids.

Candy thermometers are usually set to read higher temperatures than meat thermometers, but other than that, they're very similar.
