Probably because Operation Northwoods feeds into those who believe there was a similar conspiracy with the 9/11 attack. This was a scheme by the generals to provide rational for a full scale invasion of Cuba, while it turned out that 9/11 was used to justify a full scale invasion of Iraq. Funny how history tends to repeat itself.

What's to talk about. It was a proposal that never panned out. Nowadays, if something like this was proposed it would immediately be leaked to the press. Back then we had a different attitude concerning such things. It was the cold war and there were no rules. People didn't want to know about it back then because they didn't want to worry about world war 3. The President was viewed differently too. Look at all the crap JFK did while in office. He makes what Bill Clinton did look like a day at sunday school. He appointed his brother to be Attorney General. Do you think President Bush could get away with that today? People gave the President his space back then. Thats why it stayed secret so long. Now its just old news.

So you are on a mission.

Americans actually have more capacity and reason to talk about all aspects of Government policy and they do.

Have you read the introduction of The Project for the New American Century paper REBUILDING AMERICA’S DEFENSES.

It's only 4 pages long and easily comprehensible.

Sadly for those "conspiracy" theorists this group actively promoted an open public debate on the issues and they were NeoCons.

Sadly for you and others who think blaming America is the solution to your security in a "globalized world".

Taiwan, N. Korea, Iran, Pakistan, India and nuclear weapons in general will play a big part in your life in the next 40 years.

Russia, Turkmenistan, Kirghistan, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Georgia oil and gas will also play a big part in your life in the next 40 years.

You can pretend history stopped after the end of the USSR as many hoped, or you can take up awareness that it is your responsibility to shape it or just wait for it's inevitable arrival on your doorstep.

There are a few reasons. First and foremost, it is embarrassing. We, as a "superpower" are supposed to be above reproach. Faking terrorist acts to incite public sympathy for a military action is something other, less civilized, countries do. Secondly, the level of apathy in this country is nothing less than appalling. So, even if it is discussed, people don't care. It is something that happened 34 years ago and people seem to have forgotten that, unless we learn from the past, history is doomed to repeat itself.
It is the same reason people don't like to talk about how Bush Sr. negotiated with the Ayatollah to keep the hostages until after the election in exchange for arms - or the Iran-Contra scandal - or McCarthyism - or the New World Order - or any number of illicit dealings that the government has had -- BUT people still talk about Monica Lewinsky. The governments counts on this and uses it to continue running us into the ground and lining their pockets.
Hope that helps.

I don't worry about it. It was nothing more than some people coming up with a wildly unrealistic plan that would never have worked in the real world.

Just what do you want to discuss? Since I seriously doubt that you were even around in the early sixties, you have no idea of what the atmosphere and attitudes were then. People in this country were scared to death of the thought of Soviet nuclear weapons 90 miles from our shores. I was born in 1948 and I remember what it was like during the Cuban Invasion fiasco and the Missle Crisis. Had you been around then, you may have a different attitude about foreign policy. If you have specific questions, ask them.

It was just a stupid proposal. No real harm done.
Plus remember a Democrat was president (kennedy).

Because it's irrelevant. Don't you think that if it was important, that it would still be classified? It's not. Anyone can find it. It means nothing.
