As a follower of Jesus the Christ, I say Christianity isn't a religion because it is a personal relationship with God the Father brought about by Jesus the Son and the Holy Spirit. Most religions don't want you to have a personal relationship with God, they want to control it. A Blessed Christmas to you.

No. It's not a religion. It's a personal relationship, and a way of life.
I'm ashamed of the past horrors inflicted by the Church. However, I'm no more ashamed of that than I am of the fact that I'm white, one branch of my family comes from the South, and it's entirely possible that they owned slaves.
I wish I had control over the past, but I don't. It really has nothing to do with who I am, and what I represent. I'M not the one who started or participated in the Crusades, or the Inquisition. I'M not the one who owned slaves.
Therefore, no, I don't say that Christianity isn't a religion because of the past.

No. We admit that what we have is a religion, categorically speaking. However, we know that it is more than a religion because unlike any other religion in the world, we serve a God, instead of just asking for His blessing. We don't look towards the betterment of ourselves, rather the glory of God. In addition, scripture calls it a religion, for a religion is an institute of shared beliefs and same ideology. Paul, in James, says, what good is a man's religion if it does not result in good works towards others. One of the Apostles says that it is a religion; it would be foolish to disagree with Him.
So by definition and scripture, Christianity is a religion.

Religion is belonging to a certain group. Many groups of Christianity, i.e. Baptist, Methodist, Lutheran, Episcopal, Assembly of God, Presbyterian, Catholic, etc.
The Catholic Pope who just died finally apologized for the horrors of the Crusades. Many horrible things have been done by Catholic Popes who misused their power. One of the reasons why I don't believe in a Pope and I am not Catholic. I don't believe in praying to Mary or any Saint. Jesus is at the right hand of God and I pray to God in Jesus' name. The Holy Spirit helps me pray knowing that I need help. We serve a Jealous God and asking anyone but Him for anything is idolatry. He shares His glory with no man.
Are their Christians in each of these religious organizations? The answer is yes. Sometimes these churches become more involved in their religious traditions than they do in doing the work of God. "Go into all the world and preach the gospel." Jesus didn't say sit on the church bench until you wear out the seat. People go to church every Sunday and never tell anyone about Jesus Christ. And Jesus Christ is the only way to heaven. Denying Jesus is the way to hell. If you love one another, would you want anyone going to hell?

The last thing God wants is more religion. Jesus railed and railed against the "religious" pharisees and their ritualistic prayers and their holier than thou attitudes. Some people have made christianity into a religion. And some into a bad religion that is way too far from the teachings of the early christians and Christ.
So, I don't want to be a "religious" Christian.

If you look all throughout history, religion has a bunch of black-eye's on things it has done in the name of that religion. The crusades, the Inquisition to name a few. I have never heard of Christians denying their religion because of this. Christians, Catholics, and Protestants all have skeletons in the closet, but none have been as brutal as Islam.
Muslims are the only religion that tells you in their writings, its OK to kill as long as they are none believers. I worry about any religion that preaches killing people is ok and a sure way to get into Paradise.

I would not call it a religion but a belief system just like all others.Anyone can be religious about anything like when they exercise or brush their teeth. I also believe that all different faiths or beliefs have done things to be ashamed of not just Christians.

They claim it is about a personal relationship with God, but then turn around and spout off christian dogma and tradition meaning they are really being religious. If one truly had a personal relationship with universal consciousness they would soon transcend the personality (ego) becoming transpersonal in awareness. Thus, they would get as far away from religious dogma as possible.

Christians tend to be incredibly ashamed of their past. That's why you have so many new sects which try to divorce themselves from the history of the church that they split off of. Look at the number of protestants who claim that anything that the Catholic church did in the past is now irrelevant to them. The fact is that they WERE the catholics years ago. You can't just change your name and pretend that the past didn't occur.
