You will always have those who move away from the principles of the Bible and do their own thing. Look at Jim Jones and David Korech. But lets get back to the heart of your concerns.
God teachs us to turn the other cheek and christians in America have done that for far too long. We turned the other cheek and prayer was removed from schools. We turned the other cheek and homosexuality is being forced down our throats as an alternative life style.
We turn the other cheek and they are taking the symbols of our Christian heritage, Manger scenes, the Cross, from public lands because it might offend someone. Its even offensive to some that we say " Merry Christmas". Schools even call it the Holiday Season, or Winter Vacation instead of what it is, Chirstmas!!!
We have turned our cheek and tried to get along with everyone and we have been slapped over and over time and again.
If we dont stand up for what is right, then they are free to force other ideas and opinions down our throats. When you take away all of the traditions that have been a part of this nation since its beginnings, and laced throughout the Constitution, and replace it with corrupt of immoral ideals, then this nation will surly fail.
What will it take to wake people up?? I cant think of any religion where homosexuality is acceptable, but in America, we are trying to make it legal. Except Islam, I cant think of any religion where killing is acceptable but in the USA, murderer's are released daily to kill again, because the liberals gave them more rights than the victims.
Just take a few minutes to look around at the world we live in and it dont take you long to realize we are in a major bind world wide.

You make an excellent point. I know of many people who no longer go to church because they didnt get along with a person in it. It is the gospel of Christ that is what is perfect. People are not perfect however, and concequently a lot of people have been wronged by Christians. This is not an excuse, it is a fact. Anyone who claims to be a Christian and does not love all or points fingers at others, and those who think it is their right to judge others are the ones who are breaking God's commandments. For Jesus said, Love thy neighbor as thyself. Everyone is our neighbor. It doesnt matter what they look like, what they believe or what they do. We have no right to judge others. He who is without sin, cast the first stone. What powerful words. I know I make the sin of judging sometimes, and I try not to. I am not perfect either, and never claim to be. I hope that some day I can love all. there are many that harm others in this world, and I know that my biggest struggle is to love everyone. I dont like them, but I should love them non-the-less. I hope this helps. God Bless.

All the holidays of this time of the year is about love.
We can thank Madison ave and our own greed for what this time of the year has become.
If you have gone in to a store this week you will see people fighting over the silly est of things. In my opinion it started back when the Cabbage Patch baby came out. It was the toy to have. Ever since then it has gotten worse and worse. This keeping up with the Jone's and coupled with Madison Ave pushing more and more materialist thing.
Greed is the cause of how people act. Not love. Its will only end if we as spiritual people will not fall in to the trap. It like a laugh you hears someone laugh you instantly want to know what they are laughing about. We will have to take back the holidays from the capitalist and bring it back home.
Peace and joy to you and yours.

The world is full of mean people. You just need to find nice ones to associate with. It is particularly disappointing to see Christians in the mean section because you expect better of them and as with most groups the majority who are nice and decent bear the backlash for the few that are proud arrogant fools not really embracing the weightier matters of the faith.

No, I think Christians are really nice people. It's just that when they come to a site like this and see a whole bunch of people who don't believe in god, they just wonder, how come these people don't believe in god? I mean their whole life they've been taught that god is the greatest thing. So they ask questions - How come you don't believe in god. And other people think they're trying to convert them, and get mad. Then christians get mad, too.

There are TOO many mean Christians. Esp. in churches. I apologize for them, to all the ones they have been mean to. It hurts me as a Christian, that tries to live and show the love of Christ to know that people that are part of my peer group are that way.

I am an atheist but I'll try to give you a non poo-stirring answer.
Religion teaches an ideal. Humans are not ideal, and will deviate from their taught path in many ways great and small. This doesn't imply automatic hypocrisy. It implies imperfection, a trait which all who walk this Earth share.

Atheists or any other group have "mean people"
Quit holding Christians to higher standards that you're not willing to hold yourself. There are all types in all groups.

To serve (love) each other faithfully, I know is His command... lots of people think that because they play the part, go tho church, that they are christian, I do not go to church right now but I am very spiritual, I read my Bible and I pray, I do consider myself to be christian, please try not to stereotype.
