so? I am a Muslimah and am confused on this part of women's dress code. I know it says in the Qur'an that Muslim women should dress modestly but I see Muslim women walking around with their faces uncovered. Also since I will be moving to Saudi in 2 years should I cover my face in public there? Thank you. I'm only asking because my ex Pk Muslim friend told me it's a sin not to cover everything except the eyes.

It is not a sin not to cover your face, were it, I would be in so much trouble. Sometimes; I ask myself why do they any how? You ought to see the gobs of eye make-up they wear over her, they look like made-up clowns. Your ex friend told you that because that is what she was told. Some places in Saudi are more relaxing that others. I live in Dammam and often I go out with out even covering my hair. It all depends upon where you live I guess; some places are stricter.
The key is to dress modestly that's all. Do what you believe is right for you and not what others have to say.

No. The Qu'ran states that a woman needs to cover all but her face and hands, this applies to all except a woman whose beauty is such that men are tempted too much by her face. It comes from the prophet recommendation to a women who was in piety, but was also extraordinarily beautiful. Alhumdulilah, I am just average - what a strange burden to place on someone.

Asalaamu aleikum.

No covering your face is not required in Islam and its not a sin. But in some countries they dress like the way you are mentioned. But you dont have to "cover your face" there too.

see sis the thing of hijab is to minimze the case of rape ... nut it is majorly for the purpose that the people can see that x.y.z is muslim.. Muslim grow their bears it is only to show their identity
On the era of black night the women go for toilet in forest and far away from their homes so the kafir raped and give explanation that how could we know that they are muslims so the Allah alimghty gave the concept of hijab and it is not a sin to show your face it all depends upon the taqwa

ur ex PK muslim friend dosen't know correct information about Islam.

this is what the prophet Muhammad said:
‘A’isha said: Asma’, daughter of Abu Bakr, entered upon the Apostle of Allah (May peace be upon him) wearing thin clothes. The Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him) turned his attention from her. He said: O Asma’, when a woman reaches the age of menstruation, it does not suit her that she displays her parts of body except this and this, and he pointed to her face and hands.

muslim women are not required to do anything. There is no compulsion in Islam.

-they simply choose to carry the banner of Mary, mother of Jesus, who in every single picture i see of her-she is wearing a headcovering.

-and if anyone says its not the same headcovering or whatever, then how about reading into history?

It is part of their religion and of course, you guessed it, the fundamentalists take everything to extremes. Here is a woman that refused to take her veil off for her drivers license photo...
