If you can get around the dolphin part, I'd say you have several choices to choose from. Someone mentioned Dominica, which is absolutely perfect for diving and rainforest, etc. It's not a place where you would want to do your shopping. But if eco-tourism is your thing, go for it. They have beautiful waterfalls and hot springs as well.

St. Vincent and the Grenadines is another option. You can tour the Grenadines if the main island doesn't meet all your needs. Your accomodation choices will be plentiful vs Dominica (and flights getting there are a bit easier).

My choice though would be St. Lucia. You have rainforests, whale and turtle watching (ok, it's not dolphins but can still be nice). There is also the Nature Reserve. Friday nights in Gros Ilet is a nice party for the adults, there are more flights in and out of St. Lucia, and if you like jazz music, go in early May for their world-renowned Jazz Festival.

As with any island, there is a hurricane season from June - Nov however, the weather is usually just fine in the Southern Caribbean until the late part of the summer. The cheapest time to go to the Caribbean is Apr 15 - Dec 15th (though there are some periods with festivals where tickets & accomodation would be limited). Mid April, Mid May, June, and late Nov - Dec 15th are good times to travel. Sept & October can be good, but you never can tell what kind of hurricane season mother nature will bring when booking tickets in advance. Good Luck
