Contrary to what some are trying to tell you, 9 is NOT old for a greyhound. She will not get weak in a year either! I'm assuming that when she was bitten by a dog she was treated by a vet, so that really won't have any affect. One of my greyhounds is 9, was quite seriously injured by another dog about 5 years ago and he usually acts like a 9 month old! With good care, your dog could live to be 12 - 14. Enjoy her - keep her active, look after her teeth and she'll live a lot of years yet!

The average age for a dog that size is 10-12 years, but average means approximate. Some dog live much longer if the conditions are right. Most larger breeds have to worry about hip displacement but most greyhounds don't fall in that category. I wouldn't worry to much, just keep an eye on your pets health and enjoy every day you have together.

With love and good care, many dogs can live a long time, it hard to really set a number of years. Most of our dogs live 15-20 years. Sampson is a Pekingese and he 19 years now, I think he trying to take the record and live to at least 21. Took him to the Vet a few days ago and they said; "He has a Cataract in the one eye (Which anyone could tell) and the other eye is weak, other than that, he in very good health"! He too old to do much, other than let nature take it's course now.
But, he have love and good care, he can still see and hears well, just a little slow on the go part.

Past injuries like that dont take years from lives.
Grey hounds are a medium large breed, their life span tends to be about 10-12 years, some times more. Depending on their breeding and health.
I had a 80 pound mix who lived to be nearly 12, thats quite the age for an old lady of that size.
Right now we have a dane, who's about 160, his lifespan is generally 7 years, but he's got good breeding and no cardivascular issues and should live to see 10.
The smaller the dog, the longer than tend to live. Toy breeds can see 15 and even 16 years.

That is old for a Greyhound. If she is a rescued retired racer, very old! Most the retired Greyhounds I have known lived to 9 -11 years. The fact that she was bit & lost blood a few years ago will not effect her longevity now.

My oldest dog, is a great Dane he's 19. He's very very old. He likes to lay around now a days, and just walk down and than most of the time he just cuddles with me. He seems very wise though. His eyes looks like they tell a story.
