I agree with harley w. When I let my dog go out on her own, she gets too excited and distracted to do her business. But if I put her on her lead and go with her, she does much better. Sometimes I have to walk her around a little to stimulate her to go. I just keep telling her to go potty, then when she does I act real excited and pet her a lot and say good girl - that's a good girl. This has worked for my pup since we've had her. We got her at three months and she's almost 8 months now. Luckily she has never gone poo in the house and is almost broken of peeing inside, only the occasional accident when we aren't paying attention to her signals that she needs to go out! Just be patient with your pup and give her lots of praise when she does right - outside. She will eventually get the message.

Hope this helps a bit!

The dog isn't housetrained. Invest in a crate (your carpet will thank you) and keep her in the crate when you can't watch her. You might need to go outside (yes, I know it's winter, but that's what you get for owning a dog) with her for awhile so that you can catch her going and praise her.

Without knowing her background, she might have always used the house as her toilet. You need to treat her like a puppy instead of a dog and go back to square 1.

You need to watch her when you let her in, as soon as she shows signs of messing, grab her by the scruff of her neck, tell her "NO, YOU POTTY OUTSIDE!" and cart her into the yard.

She may mess all the way from there to the yard, but a few times of that will break her of it.

She simply either doesnt LIKE to go outside (I had a dog who hated the feeling of wet grass, and REFUSED to mess outside), or she's not connected that going outside is proper (dogs from kennels have this problem). Crating a kennel dog doesnt generally help.

You have to be consistant and watch her EVERY TIME. And give it a name. If you see her peeing outside, made a fuss over her WHILE she's peeing "good girl! go potty outside! good girl! potty outside!" Dogs can associate words with actions. Evnetually she will know that potty outside means peeing in the grass.

Stay alert, and be consistant. Dont LET her potty inside. You let her do it by not being the human and WATCHING her and knowing her body language and by teaching her.

The smell of her excrement is in the house. A dog will keep going back to the same area of smell. To get her to change the habit you have to get rid of the smell.
