the neighboors have delivered a TON of sweets and cookies. I am one who eats badly when stressed out. I am not overweight (far from it) but this over indulgence of sweets and underindulgence of healthy things like veggies can;t be good for me. I don't think my family would be pleased if I threw the food out. I know that I am going to have to excercise some self discipline here, but any tips for making it easier? thanks ^_^

Of course, don't throw them out. It is just for a couple of weeks. A little over-indulgence for a couple of weeks is not the end of the world and you can get back into a healthier routine in the new year. Enjoying Christmas goodies is all part of "all things in moderation". If there are really too many for your family to eat, talk to them about it and suggest making up a nice basket or tray of goodies and deliver them to a homeless shelter, a soup kitchen, a nursing home, etc. Pay it forward.

You're right it's not going to be easy - time to excercise some self control here. You can enjoy some of the sweets without going overboard - it's called moderation. Just keep it in your mind that they aren't good for you to eat constantly but the occasional sweet is not going to hurt you.

do you have a dog?... if so, make an excuse like...

the dog got into the cookies and put his germs on them

this will be a good excuse to throw them out

It's flat out not going to be easy. Suck it up and put them down the garbage disposal so there wont be any midnight dumpster diving going on.
