That's the answer I thought I'd get with all the media coverage. The links I've found, such as this
http://radicalreference.info/node/1324
say that there are more than 10 times the cases of Malaria than Aids, with 2700 deaths daily or 2 per minute as of 1995.

Difficult...I would have maybe said malaria. Malaria certainly kills more people and is a leading cause of child mortality in Africa but at least there are treatments if caught in time. HIV/AIDS on the other hand is unable to be cured by current medical knowledge so which is really "worse"? If you're judging which is "worse" purely on mortality figures then it would be malaria but it's not quite that simple because infection with HIV is a tragic disease in Africa, where people do not have readily available access to expensive medication that could potentially prolong their life. Interesting question.

depends on what you mean by worse. Mortality rate is AIDS, Morbidity rates is malaria. However, malaria has a cure and of course there is no cure for HIV/AIDS and yet even the retrovirals are basically too expensive for people to afford.

AIDS. Malaria is a problem, however it is localizied to areas which are close to water and harbour the particular mosquito which carries malaria to humans.
