The laminate flooring works great. It is easier to install, is stronger than wood for floors, & does not need to be refinished. When buying, check for thickness of the color.
It will also help if you keep your dogs nails trimmed.

Try the link below and do a dealer search for an area near you. Stay away from Laminate floors. They are not the way to go. If one board gets damaged there is no way to replace it unless yo take the whole floor apart, if it gets a little puddle on it, it will swell. I highly suggest Mannington Adura in any situation where a homeowner is reluctant to purchase hardwood because of pets. It is as hard as a laminate, it is next to impervious to moisture, and if 1 board is damaged it is easily replaced without calling an installer, or removing the entire room full of furniture. Plus since it is installed in 4" X 54" pieces you can rack it out like real hardwood, and don't end up with that crappy patterned look of laminate. NOT TO MENTION the god awful sound laminate makes in a large room, it's like walking on a drum. I absolutely hate the acoustics of it.

We had a trailer full of the laminate flooring. I have two very large cats and they have back claws and they never scratched it up. Don't get any furnature polish on it or your socks will slide and the throw rugs will become flying carpets. And I don't know what the difference is between hardwood floors and this laminate stuff but the laminate floors are really hard on your feet. They make your feet hurt after walking on them for only a few minutes so I wouldn't recommend it for a kitchen where you'll be standing alot.

Please go with real wood. Laminate can only be sanded so much as it is very thin. Go with the real thing. It can take alot of abuse, be sanded over and over. Just make sure that you put 3-4 coats of poly on it to seal it good. I have had my flooring in the whole downstairs of my house for 10 years with dogs and it still looks great. Haven't done a thing except damp mop it. Good luck in your choice.

Laminate flooring is the way to go. Dont worry about the dogs scratching it. It wont happen.
PS Its funny to watch them slide all over on it :-)

I bought a floating floor that is like a Pergo at Menards and even though my dog has long nails and runs and slides all over it, it's fine! No scratches at all.
