Seriously. If a menorrah was damaged, or a gay pride store spray painted with heterosexual messages, or a Muslim temple defiled it would be considered a hate crime. Yet if a baby Jesus is stolen from a manger scene or a statue of Jesus is defiled with satanic messages, the perpetrators are called vandals. Why aren't these called hate crimes? If someone spray paints a swastika on a synagogue door, that is a hate crime. If someone paints 'homosexuality is a sin' on a gay store, that is a hate crime. So why, when satanic messages are painted on a statue of Jesus (happened in San Diego), is it just considered vandalism? Is it just not possible to hate Christians?

dm_dragon, no, I want to know why equal rights aren't applied by the law and demanded by the media. Where is the outrage? Where is the cry of foul?

Interesting question, because your basic premise is based on a misunderstanding of the current state of law [for the past 14 years or more].

The US Supreme Court has been disallowing enhancement of crimes because of "hate." If you spray paint a menorah, it is an act of vandalism and will be treated as such. The fact that the vandalism is swastikas does not make it a greater level of crime.

There are two key cases that address crimes in which the definition of the crime included a limitation on expression that was repugnant to the community - a cross burning crime and a US flag burning crime.

R.A.V. v City of St. Paul, 505 US 377 [1992] was a free speech case involving the "hate crime" of burning a cross on a black family's lawn. The Supreme court threw out the part of the conviction that involved hate speech as an overly-broad restriction on freedom of speech and expression.

Texas v. Johnson, 491 US 397 [1989] was the flag burning case. In this one, Johnson burned a US flag as a symbol of protest in violation of Texas law. The Supreme Court invalidated the Texas law as an overly broad restriction of freedom of speech and expression.

Because hate crimes are defined as acts against a minority. As soon as we have more gays or Jews or Muslims, then we have Christians, then hate crimes will project the stolen Baby Jesus our of the nativity scene.

Is that what are you are wanting or waiting for?

Sadly the world is being run by 'Politically Correct' people and 'Human Rights' activists. You are right in your description. In England if you say anything about another religious group or ethnic minority you are branded as 'racist' but it seems to be alright the other way around. Lots of people hate Christianity especially those of Muslim origin and they constantly criticise it. The British are too afraid to do or say anything in case these people are 'offended'. Well, I'm sorry, but they do lots of things that 'offend' me but, being white and English I can be put in prison for saying what they are or expressing my opinion..
