Stay away from butter, cheese, and egg yolks these foods are high in fat and are a definite no. Try eating foods like oatmeal, fish, and Spinach, unsalted sunflower seeds, beans also help lower blood pressure and add calcium, vitamin D, magnesium and potassium to your diet.. also every once in awhile you can have some yourself some dark chocolate which is also good in lowering high blood pressure and it's under 30 calories.

3 years ago, I was diagnosed - hypertension with a reading of 160/100. I used to feel dizzy a lot, my legs had awful cramps, and levels were very low in my potassium, causing my fingers and toes to always cramp together. One day I started to feel really faint while I was driving with my daughter in the back seat and I passed out, hitting 3 cars and ending up in a ditch. That moment,I knew I had to do something because my meds weren't working. I heard about this diet from a friend and thought I'd give it a shot. The results have been remarkable. In just 21 days, I honestly can't remember feeling this good, my blood pressure went from 175/110 to 125/70.

JUST READ AN ARTICLE IN WOMAN'S WORLD MAGAZINE DATED01/02/2007 ON PAGE 18.

IT SAYS THAT 800 mcg OF FOLIC ACID DAILY WILL GIVE YOU A 45%LOWER RISK OF HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE.

MORE POTASSIUM WILL HELP REDUCE YOUR BLOOD PRESSURE BY 7%. AIM FUR 4,700 mg DAILY. BY USING A SALT SUBSTITUTE, THAT CAN ADD POTASSIUM TO YOUR DIET. ALSO EAT FOODS RICH IN POTASSIUM SUCH AS SWEET POTATOES AND ORANGES.

VITAMIN C WILL HELP RELAX THE BLOOD VESSELS AND SHIELD THEM FROM HARMFUL EFFECTS OF STRESS HORMONES. A 9% DROP IN BLOOD PRESSURE WAS THE RESULT AFTER TAKING 500mg DAILY FOR A MONTH.

TOMATO PILLS MAY ALSO HELP. A DOSE OF 15mg DAILY WAS RECOMMENDED.

OBVIOUSLY, SINCE THIS IS A WOMANS MAGAZINE, THE ARTICLE WAS AIMED AT WOMEN. I WOULD THINK THAT IT WOULD ALSO HELP MEN WITH THE SAME PROBLEM.

You should pay attention to eliminate the causes of High blood pressure.
Causes of Hypertension.
Age. Over time, the number of collagen fibers in artery and arteriole walls increases, making blood vessels stiffer. With the reduced elasticity comes a smaller cross-sectional area in systole, and so a raised mean arterial blood pressure.
High salt intake (Reduce sodium intake in the diet i.e, Sodium chloride, Baking soda and Ajinomoto)
Sedentary lifestyle.(Regular daily exercise)
Tobacco smoking (Stop tobacco/cigarette smoking)
Alcoholism (Stop consuming alcohol)
High levels of saturated fat in the diet. Cholesterol- Get your LDL (bad cholesterol) levels checked at least once a year. (Target: Below 100 mg/dL). Triglycerides. (Target: Less than 150 mg/dL) Serum Cholesterol (Target: Less than 200 mg/dL) HDL (good cholesterol) (Target: More than 50 mg/dL)
Eat a low-cholesterol, low-fat diet. This kind of diet includes cottage cheese, fat-free milk, fish (not canned in oil), vegetables, poultry, egg whites, and polyunsaturated oils and margarines (corn, safflower, canola, and soybean oils). Avoid foods with excess fat in them such as meat (especially liver and fatty meat), egg yolks, whole milk, cream, butter, shortening, lard, pastries, cakes, cookies, gravy, peanut butter, chocolate, olives, potato chips, coconut, cheese (other than cottage cheese), coconut oil, palm oil, and fried foods.
Obesity - In obese subjects, losing a kilogram of mass generally reduces blood pressure by 2 mmHg. Abdominal circumference should be less than 100 cms. Reduce overweight.
Stress.(Reduce stress by meditation)
Low birth weight
Diabetes mellitus (Control diabetes)
Various genetic causes
Occupational, aircraft and roadway noise exposure.
Please see the web pages for more details on Hypertension.
