Both are excellent dogs. Also, they are both good with children. What you may want to consider in choosing one or the other; Size, the Beagle is smaller and may be better for a house dog, though the Retriever is good too, just a larger dog. The other; Hair, the Beagle is shorter haired and may be easier to care for, and the Retriever will need brushed more and will shed more. As a child I enjoyed brushing my dog, so, hair length may not be a big factor to many of us. Last; the Beagle may be more prone to hunt. So, if not kept in a fence may tend to wander off more looking to hunt. This the only "Real" things I can think of in choosing. Many may say one or the other as a matter of preference, but, as far as I am concerned they will both make a good addition to a home. Just take the time to teach and they both be as smart as you teach them to be.

It depends what your looking for. They are both very playful and loving. Beagles are very good at catching things and love to play. Goldens can be more relaxed at some times. Me being a pet lover, I would get both, but if you have kids you should get the energetic and protective Beagle. If you want a companion who is loyal you should get the Golden. ( I am not saying one dog has the quality and the other doesn't. Dogs have personalities too.)
Hope you understand and this helps you ^_^

Neither, either or both.

Dogs are only better, or worse, than others when they conform (or not) to your desires.

Golden Retreivers are wonderfully giddy, crazy dogs who will cause amusement and joy in most families. However, they also need attention more or less constantly and will leave hairs all over...be warned.

Beagles were originally bred as hunting dogs and have many of the attributes that hunting dogs have. They also can be very good house dogs and enjoy affection. (they're also possibly more embarrassing to their owners as they have a habit of displaying their genitals to all comers (perhaps better to get a female Beagle?)

Seriously choose your dog because you love the dog, not because of some idealised stereotypical picture on an 'ideal' dog.

I'm a dog lover and have been lucky with mine-I didn't buy them because of breed stereotypes (except with Sammy I wanted a dog that didn't shed hairs) And my second dog we adopted from the streets, here in Spain, where he was turned out day after day, night after night to fend for himself. He is now as affectionate a Sammy, and they get on well and we love him to bits. Breed? Who knows, maybe a little Heinz in there!

Enjoy your dog, whatever it may be,

I will have to say a golden retriever they are very loyal and extremely friendly. My aunt has 2 beagles and they have like a wet dog odor no matter if wet or dry. she told me that it is just the way beagles are. I don't know how true it is so don't hold me to that one. I would suggest a golden retriever to anyone. Great dogs!

Labradors are better than both but the Golden would be the better of the two if you can afford the size.
I love Beagles but they are hunting dogs and will put their nose to the ground and run forever till they can't find their way back.

They are both excellent dogs, but remember that both breeds were developed for a reason. Just as the name implies Golden's were developed to retrieve shot game, and Beagles are a hound developed to "circle" their pray (rabbits) back past their handler for the shot.
I have owned and trained both for many-many years, and while they are both excellent dogs, they are very different so do lots of homework.

I prefer the Golden Retriever, they are great with children, they love to play-especially in water, easy to train, they always act like they feel good, they like to curl around your feet and sleep. A very good companion. I have never heard one even growl. Beagles are good dogs also but you can't bond with one like you can with the Golden Retriever. My vote is the Retriever, They are the best all around.

It depends on what you want. They are both excellent dogs. I perfer the Beagle. But Golden Retrivevers are good dogs do. They are both good with kids, but the Beagle tends to roam and run off when he gets the senct of something.

Definitely GOLDEN RETRIEVER.. well, the thing that I like about the GR's is that they are very loyal, they will be always be at your side following and accompanying you all the time... While beagle are stubborn, they follow what they like.. But it's all up to you.... cheers
