The cat doesn't even get wet. Apparently they are at a marsh or something where there are ducks and cattails-Not litterally "a cat tail" But cattails that grow in marshy areas. So if a cat is sitting on one and a duck dives in the water, may the cat is having fun...or maybe the cat is sitting on the cattail trying to stalk the duck so that it can get eaten by the cat...

It exploded because they both had exploding proximity collars on and the duck exceeded the safety range. The duck flies away unscathed because the water interrupted the detonate signal.
