I just reinstalled ITunes on my computer.
The install of Itunes went fine. I restored my Ipod (erased everything, back to factory settings) using Itunes. So, the Ipod is a blank device right now, nothing on it.
When I told the computer to update my Ipod it did so, except at the end of the update a window popped up saying "Cannot find file necessary for Update" or something similar to that.
Itunes won't recognize my Ipod, and won't let me put songs onto it or sync it. (The nano won't come up as a device when I plug the Ipod into the dock). My computer will recognize the Ipod as removable storage, but I can't seem to get it to show up in Itunes so I can load songs onto it... help would be appreciated
If you can email me thru my profile to walk me thru it- I'm a tech idiot and will need specific instructions on how to do it... thank you a ton!!
PS- it is a 2 gb Ipod Nano-- my other issue with it is that it won't let me use all the storage on it for audio files-- only 1gb... help!

Make sure that you installed Itunes before hooking up the Ipod. I think that was stated in the instructions. Then close out Itunes before plugging in your Ipod and let that come up. Soon as it is recognized, open Itunes. That should let Itunes bring up your ipod in the side directory. You will need to update the ipod and do that through itunes. That should successfully update it.
As for the storage, it seems it didn't erase what you had on it before. Try restoring the ipod yet again. This should help, if not go to Apple's web site and look there. They have helpful and easy to understand walkthroughs if you are having trouble.

I had the same problem with Mp3 player. Just download the new version of Windows Media and dowload limewire.
1)Download the song you want from limewire
2)Open windows media and click the top button that says sync
3)go back to lime wire and highlight the songs you want to load on your ipod
4)click the button that says explore
5)a box should pop up and all of your songs will be there
6)click the song and hold down the button
7)drag it over to windows media (make sure you drag it all the way over on to the sync list and don't just try to drag and drop it because it wont work)
8)plug in your ipod
9)once all of your songs are on the sync list click start sync

I had the same problem with my 30g iPod, and this worked for me:

Open iTunes - along the top you'll see the toolbar, and select "Store" - go down to "authorize computer" and select. Plug in your iPod and you should be good; if not, you may have to call Apple.

attempt putting your iPod in restoration mode. turn it on, and turn it on. maximum surprising whilst the Apple emblem pops up, press and carry the homestead button, and plug it in. in case you nonetheless get no longer something, in basic terms carry power and homestead on the iPod and turn it back on.
