Because of the return aspect of the check. Imagine the check was a cartoon...animated. The check is given to you from Joe Smoe and you deposit it. Your bank sees there is insufficient funds so the bank returns the check to Joe Smoes bank and says "Nice try buddy!"
Now imagine you only see the check and not the people...it starts a point A...goes to point B and then back to point A...just like a "Bounce"

a cheque that can not be processed because the writer has insufficient funds., `slang term` is it that it has bounced.
also known as a rubber check.
it`s the return part you should concentrate on...... not the actual physical properties of the paper.

because, when you need the money and money does not go to your account when someone say that it should then most most people feel like they just hit a brick wall and bounced back. thats why!!!!!!!!!!
