How is it different from regular beer?

"lite" beer is made using less malt than regular beer.
If you use (for example) 5lbs of malt for a 5 gallon batch,
"lite" beer would use between 3-4 lbs of malt for the same batch
This results in less fermentables (resulting in less calories) and
of course, less flavor. Many American breweries use corn or
rice in addition to malted barley in their mash. They achieve
flavor by adding non-fermentable grains (such as dextrine malt)
to their mash which gives added body, but no added calories.

Light beer is the biggest fraud perpetrated against humanity since Jesus. Light beer is a crime against nature and should only be given to children ...... as punishment. To make it, they leave out some of the ingredients, they brew it for a shorter period of time which means lower alcohol content. They then convince you that this is somehow better because you can drink more of it, which means you have to buy more of it at the same price as the regular swill. It is a win/win situation for them and you get ripped off.

They will usually substitute rice in lieu of the normal amount of hopps. It is also accomplished during the fermentation process and by the types of malts that are used during the brewing process.
