Long wait at Waverley as train leaves without passengers
COMMUTERS and Christmas revellers faced lengthy delays at Edinburgh's Waverley Station when a train took off without its passengers.
Passengers were waiting in the station's foyer last night for platform information for the 9.33pm service from Edinburgh to Perth, which includes stops at Linlithgow, Falkirk Grahamston and Stirling. When an announcement went out that the train was to depart from platform 16, passengers started making their way through the barriers.
But before they got to the platform, the train took off with nobody on board.
First Scotrail's duty manager blamed the problem on Network Rail, which had given the signal to the train to move off. More than 50 passengers needed to wait in the station for an hour, while people travelling to Perth needed to change at Stirling and wait for an adjoining Perth service.
