Ordinarily, a woman doesn't like to share her age or weight.

But since you asked about an elderly woman, it would not be polite to ask about medications or her personal finances. These are discreet and can be very sensitive for anyone, but rather disturbing for an elderly person.

It depends on the elderly lady. Some prefer to be discreet about things like their age...while others are proud to be healthy, vibrant and beautiful at 90.

If you don't know the lady...I would stay away from:

age and if her husband is deceased, I would avoid that topic

In my experience, I've found it best to avoid the question "how are you today?", unless I have 45 minutes to spare to sit and hear about athritis in her knuckles; about that headache that hasn't left her since '88; about those swollen feet that don't go down no matter how long she keeps them up for; those corns and bunions on the toes that make a simple task like putting on shoes make the great depression seem like a walk in the park and of course, the bowels and frequency of their motions this week.

Also, I'd steer clear of any question beginning with "when you were a little girl...", also unless you have another 45 mins to spare to hear exactly how it was 'back in her day' and how today's generation have left it to wreck and ruin.

I taught my young boys never talk about the following with ladies:

1)how very old a lady is
2)how big she is (aka her weight)
3) or make any comments about her wonderful facial hair (one of my boys waxed eloquent about a lady's mustache).

The only exception is if the old lady is exceptionally old, (perhaps an age older than 80 . . .ask your mother to be sure) then age is a matter of pride and achievement.

That should about cover it!

Hey wait a minute!?!? I thought there an answer to this listed by a standards organization or something similar.

I was laboring under the idea that you're not supposed to ask Age or Weight.

that's a ingredient of white custom and the assumption of "rugged individualism." each thing that's completed via a white person they think they completed on their very own and for that reason with this concentration a white person would not sense the could take care of their elders. The elders who taught them this rugged individualism grow to be a burden and not a exhilaration. White people can no longer earnings themselves in any way via being effective to them so as that they forget approximately them and don't care. they think of their elders could in basic terms take care of themselves by using rugged individualism concept. it somewhat is in basic terms part of their cultural upbringing. good question although, whitey would not like it while the shoe is on the different foot and their custom is being scrutinized.

There's a story about an elderly lady in a care home, sitting in her chair, and a chap comes walking past her on his walking frame (obviously he's getting on in years also). He asks her: 'I bet you can't guess how old I am?' and she replies 'Oh Yes I can,' so he says 'Go on, then.'

So she reaches round and unzips his trousers, pops her hand inside and has a really good fondle for five or ten minutes. Then with a delighted smile she says 'Ninety-seven!'

'You're right!' he responds. 'How could you tell?'

'You told me yesterday ..... '

WEll they probably get tired of peeps asking them how they are feeling constantly--esp. with a sad look on their faces.
The other is, where did she get those round shoes she had custom made for her curly purple toed bloated feet?
