By it's nature cake is fattening.

It is egg, sugar, fat (oil, butter, shortening, margarine) and the least nutritious part of grain flour (pastry flour).

The best strategy to minimise its impact is to eat less of it. This can be achieved by eating smaller pieces. The trouble is that it is very delicious and there is a tendency to want to eat more of it. A good way to at least partially circumvent this is, paradoxically to make the richest, heaviest cake possible. The content of a very heavy cake is not that different from a light and fluffy cake in terms of sugar, flour and fat. The major difference is in moisture content. The other major difference is that it is more filling, so it takes less to satisfy the "urge."

Good luck, eat healthy.

Use a prepackaged individual serving of applesauce to replace the oil required of most recipes.

u can substitute oils with applesauce. you can use splenda for your sugar instead of processed white sugar. use a whole grain flour rather then white all purpose flower. read your labels in the cooking isle at your store for what will replace what for ingredients. there are tons of ways now to do that.

You can use yogurt instead of applesauce or oils....no pudge chocolate fudge are fat free brownies, and they are ok. Perhaps they have a cake recipie/mix. Otherwise, just do a search for low fat or fat free recipies.

instead of oil you can buy weight watchers oil which is 1 calorie per spray and you dont have to use to much...instead of using sugar use canderal (sweetner)...use low fat butter instead of margarine...do not use the yolk out of the egg...but of course some cakes require these particular ingrediants

Where it calls for oil, substitute either half the oil with water or applesauce.

You could put in splenda instead of sugar, but then it would taste like crap instead of cake.
