Cats are nice. They are loving but you have to remember that when you have a cat, you belong to them....... not the other way around!! Because that is how cats see it, they will bring you presents from time to time of dead mice or birds, it is in their nature so if you don't want a 'Godfather' pet that brings home headless animals, don't own a cat!!
A fish is cool though cos you can teach it tricks to do at parties...
e.g......... call it Bob, and when your friends come over, you can show them how the fish says his own name (watch it's mouth and he will say it!!)
They are very calming to watch but they can get expensive and high maintenance if you opt for the more tropical kind.
If this is a serious question you will have to look at your lifestyle to chose the best pet for you.
I wish you luck, and a Merry Christmas to you.

If you are stuck, why not go for both,i have a cat,and 2 fish tanks,my cat loves watching them and try's to catch them thro the glass, which is comical. While fish are relaxing to watch at night when you need to get some peace, either way both are rewarding.

depends what you want from a pet. cats are warm and snuggly, can show you affection.and bring you great happiness. if you get a cat you might want to make sure it stays indoors. cats that go out can bring in fleas, drag in dead rodents, and that can become a problem. i also have fish and they are o.k. but i don't love them like i do my cats.

The fish is easier to take care of, but the cat is cuter.
