One could get really emotional about this, but let's get real. Check your facts! The Democrats are the ones proposing to reinstate the draft, and are blocked by the Republicans every time. The latest attempt is by the same guy who tried the last time, Charles Rangel, Democrat.

An all volunteer army helps to keep moral up, while conscription (draft) only brings out the conscientious objectors who like to make political speeches.

US forces are made up of people from all walks of life, young and old, rich and poor, smart and smarter, drop-outs and mba's and phd's. All it takes is for the volunteer is to believe in the cause to join - and so many do believe and have joined, and as many have re-joined at the end of their tour of duty.

Just because you are against something doesn't mean that those who oppose your opinion are less intelligent than you.

The idea that the draft will bring in more intelligent men and women into the forces is an insult to the ones currently in uniform. The least you can do as a comfortable casual observer is to have some respect.

Will won't mond ??

To answer your question, the draft doesn't always mean a quality fighting force. Believe me, there are plenty of AMERICANS left in this country who would enlist if this country were in danger of being defeated by Jihadists. I am 40 years old, and I would enlist tomorrow if we were to take on Iran. I would serve in Iraq. But I'm not going to fight a war where political correctness has taken precedence over defeating a wicked enemy. If I were faced with killing the enemy as long as he doesn't duck into the nearest mosque for cover, I would be court marshaled.

I hope they don't bring back the draft..that would be awful... I wasn't around during the Vietnam War, but I read about it, heard about, saw movies about it in school and in personal life.. and I'm sure it was even worse than it was portrayed ... I couldn't even imagine when I was 18 to be told I have to go to war, thrown out of an airplane to run for my life, watch my friends die, and have to kill other people to stay alive - my biggest problem when I was 18 was whether or not the guy that I liked, liked me.... It needs to stay volunteer... people shouldn't be forced unless it was absolutely necessary, and this war in Iraq is not necessary

they are talking seriously about it ... in a couple of months they are running some tests on the draft apparatus ..

,,WASHINGTON - The Selective Service System is making plans to test its draft machinery in case Congress and President Bush need it, even though the White House says it doesn't want to bring back the draft.

The agency is planning a comprehensive test - not run since 1998 - of its military draft systems, a Selective Service official said. The test itself would not likely occur until 2009 .... The Selective Service will start planning for the 2009 tests next June or July

Perhaps the draft would not be needed if our Commander in Chief was not sending"able and intelligent" volunteers into War.
Perhaps we just need "able and intelligent" people monitoring visitors to America.
Perhaps if the Federal government enforced existing Visa laws we would not have to send our Volunteer Army to other countries to "defend" us.
As long as Dubyah/Cheney are in charge, I do not think there will an outpouring of "Intelligent" volunteers to the Armed services.
Bringing the draft back will be just like when Dad said,"read my lips...."
This Presidents' legacy is going rival Ulysses S. Grants'.
Just my opinion!

Let's just undo the Bill Clinton " Reduction In Force ' , reform the disbanded units , regular , Guard and Reserve .
Fill the ranks with Volenteers .
That would give us 6 additional Army Divisions ,50,000 more Marines and rebuild the Air Force and Navy .
In 1990 we had a well balanced force structure , capable of smashing virtually any threat .

Volunteer is much better, we just need willing and able intelligent men to sign up. More and more. The problem with a draft is you'll get some real goofs in there, who could get someone killed.

who are you to single out that all President Bush supporters are for the war???? No one wants war ever but there are times/circumstances that warrant taking action. I wish you knew all about your subject before you asked such an idiotic question.
