$2.50 just for getting in
$.40 for each 1/4 mile
$.40 for each 30 seconds stopped in traffic
$.50 additional night charge
Plus, tip in the range of 15-20 percent
From JFK to anywhere in Manhattan (and the other way around), there is a flat rate of $45 plus any tolls and tip.
If you want a livery cab, my favorite is Boulevard: 1 (718) 263-2223. If you can't get them, take Four Ones: 1 (718) 441-1111

The taxis are not cheap, and they've just increased their rates again. (Example: rate from airport to midtown Manhattan is $45 plus tip). If you can, use public transportation - we have great buses and subways that run very frequently. The taxi meter keeps going even if the car isn't moving, so you pay for every traffic jam and every red light. If public transporation is not convenient, try a car service. They give you a set rate before they take off and you are not charged for the time you are stalled in traffic (tip the driver the same as you would tip the yellow cab)
I hardly ever use a cab; the way they drive scares the hell out of me. To me, the subways are much safer.

$2.50, plus $.40 for every 1/5 mile or 60 seconds, whichever comes first. There is a $.50 night surcharge (8pm-6am), and a $1.00 peak hour surcharge (4-8PM). Extra charges for use of the trunk, travel out of the city, travel to Newark Airport. And you pay tolls, including return tolls for some bridges. I'd call this very expensive, since most of the time you end up sitting in traffic.

My pal it relies upon on the time of day, the site visitors and how some distance are you going. Taxis in manhattan city are charge by ability of the meter fee. The preliminary fare, once you enter a cab, is $2.50 and the meter is going up from there. My suggestion my pal, take the subway, its swifter and extra low-fee than a taxi. sturdy success

expensive
they drive like nascar drivers
and most of the time you sit in traffic and the meter just keeps clicking up standing time
better to take the subway
it is cheaper
you canbuy a metro card for the fare
cheaper and faster
metro cards can be bought for a set # of rides or for a week etc
they also have what is called a metro fun card which is good for 24 hrs. of unlimited rides and costs $7.00
the subway can take you anywhere you want to go

It is reasonably priced...when my husband and I visit there we take taxis more than we do the subway (it stinks terribly!)...but be forewarned...some of these guys drive like maniacs! But the majority of them are ok. If you're just checking out Manhattan, take a taxi...if you're going further out like Queens, perhaps the subway would be cheaper.
