Morality questions go along the lines of 'should I shoot someone coming in through my window, even if I can't tell who the person is?"
Your question is more social, and I think the best answer is: a gift implies that it belongs to you. So long as you don't 're-gift' the item to the exact same person, then you are ok.
And if the person who gave you the gift asks why someone else has it, or if you didn't like the gift, simply say: "I already had what you had given me, but I thank you for giving me an even better gift: an opportunity to make someone else happy. Merry Christmas."

As some people might think it is morally and ethnically wrong to re gift, 99% of us do it or have done it before. I don't see the problem with it. After all think of it this way the person getting the re gifted gift would most likely love it more than you. Other wise it would either sit in your closet forever or get thrown away witch is wasted money. Plus this is the season of giving so I say just give it away.

Who has room to hang on to every gift they've ever received? Not me. And if someone else can use it, then giving it to that person seems like the right thing to do!
And if the giver is insulted by that, they need to re-evalute the spirit in which they are giving gifts.
I attach a gift receipt whenever I can. I try to buy thoughtful gifts, but mostly, I want the recipients to be happy, and if that means returning my gift, well, that's okay.

I've done it once or twice and didn't really feel guilty since I really didn't have any money for a new gift.
As long as the thing is not broken, clean and neetly wraped, I think it's fine. But to honestly tell the truth - I wouldn't do it to the person I really love. If it's for a cousin or something like that - it's ok.

If they went to a lot of trouble to get it for you or its something that you know has a lot of meaning attached to it and thats why they got it for you cz it specific for you. Then i would feel v.guilty, ive never done it anyway (that i can remember lol!) i do think id feel kinda guilty, but that doesnt necessarily make my guilt legitimate!
and since youve got 2 of the same thing i dont think it would be wrong of you to pass it on i guess, its better than wasting it on someone who doesnt need it. In todays world there is far too much waste anyway so if u feel any guilty think about the waste arguement i guess!

Lots of people re-gift. I've never done it, but ya never know. I don't think it's wrong, just keep track of who's seen it and who gave it to you so you don't give the same gift back to the person you gave it to. It's not the amount of money spent on the gift, it's the thought behind it.

The giving away of gifts that someone has spent time and energy finding for you is tasteless and unkind. If you already have one give the one you already have to charity and use the gift. If they were both gifts then having a second one for when the first broke is never a bad idea.
How can people throw that love back in someones face - even if your Daddy saw you as a little girl I would be charmed and grateful that I had one still.
When people have died their gifts to us take on an extra special dimension - so no I never give gifts away and try to make them last for ever to remind me tangibly of people when they are gone.

I have done this several times. But most of the time it's not something I already have. It's something I don't need,WANTor even LIKE.
I'll pass it to someone else saying so and so gave me this and if you would like it....you are more than welcome to take it.
A great many people are now doing this.....
After all...the gift was given to you ....therefore it is yours to do with as you choose.

I can't see why it should be wrong,if you've got no use for a particular gift.
What is the point of cluttering up your home with something you have no use for,or don't intend on using.
I was bought a jewellery box, quite a few years ago,and i took one look at it,and gave it away.
The reason being,i was coming up to 20,and my father bought the said jewellery box.
It was for a young girl of 6- 10 years, bright pink with a ballerina.
I was also bought a gold-plated charm bracelet, which i was unable to wear as i have an allergy to metals.

I dont have a problem with it. Whats the point in keeping it when you already have it? It seems a waste! And its no worse giving it to someone else to save money than selling it on ebay for the money.
Just make sure its still sealed if its a dvd or something.
