I have been a Christian for most my life. I never argue religion or politics with anyone. If my friends like to talk about religion we have good talks.

I am a non theist Secular Humanist and tend toward left of center in my political thinking.. Most of my friends are svery religious Christians and some aresome of those are quite conservative political. We recognize each other as sincere
individuals who try to good works for our comunities and simply
do not discuss areas where our interests are very strong but arein sharp disagreement. We get along just fine that way, often with feeling of considerable affection for each other.

I would say if they are a really good friend, you should be able to argue anything.

My girlfriend is Buddhist and I'm an atheist and we talk about religion all the time. My mom has different politics from me and we talk about it more than anything

Not if they are a good friend.

With someone you half know, or who may not competely trust you for yourself, it can be a major disaster.
If they are your friend only because you are like them, then introducing questions can be profoundly unsettling.

But having a trusted friend with whom you can chew things over, thrash things out, now that is something of considerable value.
