Kya Rose has it right - morality changes. What is condemned one generation can be tolerated the next, and fully accepted after that. Just look at interracial marriage - it use to be illegal and the vast majority of voting Americans thought that it was an abomination (when the Suprememe Court ruled that it should be legal, only 14% of the public agreed with them!). For a long time after that it was tolerated, but looked down on. Now, in most of the US, is is thought of as a pretty normal thing.
Gay marriage is no different. Right now it's on its way from totally illegal to "kinda tolerated". Obviously we're still closer to the "totally illegal" side of things, but it's gradually changing. Eventually, our kids or grandkids will look back and think "Wow, I can't believe those backwards farts ever voted against same-sex marriage! Everyone should have the right to get married, duh!"

Anything that goes against the Bible that doesn't "hurt" anyone seems to be the thing to do in American culture.
While I understand that a gay couple who have been together for 30 deserve more rights than a straight couple who got married about a year after meeting (met 7/31/02 married 8/23/03) especially right after the wedding, and deserve some sort of legal status other than "friends" and I personally have more respect for a gay couple who would stay together than I do for an unmarried straight couple who lives together, my Christian background indicates this is not the right thing to do.
I think the downfall of society has been the legalization of abortion, along with the social stigma being lifted from having a child out of wedlock. I think (and this is just speculation) that some of the more pro-marriage possibly monogamous gays in long term relationships of looking at what's acceptable in straight society and wondering why they can't as much as be eachother's next of kin without specifying it in a will. I chose my next of kin by marrying him a year after we met. On some levels, they should have that same right. The question we have to ask ourselves is that is society going to suffer if we grant that right? I don't know the answer to that.

It is an example of the natural evolution of thought and morality.
The same thing happened with slavery. It used to be that owning slaves was a DIVINE right, supported by the BIBLE and anyone who even so much as hinted that it was wrong to own and beat slaves would be condemned for daring to speak such evil heresies.
Today, slavery is known to be morally wrong and anyone who supports such practices is condemned.
Homosexual rights are no different. In 100 years, anyone who tries to point to the Bible and state that homosexuality is evil will be condemned for it.
Morality evolves, like everything else. The sooner you realize it, the more comfortable you will be.

I agree - it's all gone to hell in a handbasket! You're damned if you do and damned if you don't. Regardless of the issue, I just don't think it's fair when a minority of about 3 per cent (not the 10 as usually quoted) gets so much media play and attention.
