How many people who wore pants can you name that are murderers? Now the same question about people without pants?
Oh no - wearing pants must be evil!
Your question, by the way, is a prime example of a logical fallacy known as an unrepresentative sample. Just compare all of the religious non-murderers and the percetage of religious people throughout history, and see what you come up with.
When you're done with that, look at the motives of religious murderers, and see how many were actually based in religion. The Crusades were politically motivated, as was the initial spread of Islam, the Inquisition and the Boxer Rebellion, to name a few.
And how was Stalin religious, do you suppose? Or Mao? Or Castro?

Wrong answer. Stalin and Hitler did all they could to destroy religion of any kind. Religious faiths of all kinds were persecuted and outlawed. Church's in China are still being torn down. Read your history book
As for the gentleman below me Manson created his own religion, with him as a prophet and a God. He was attempting to start a civil war in the US between races.
Mr Dellow - Karl Max was a Jewish athiest and Stalin was his greatest student. Hitler and Stalin came from religious families but were not religious themselves to quote Adolf; Christianity is a rebellion against natural law, a protest against nature. Taken to its logical extreme, Christianity would mean the systematic cultivation of human failure.

Charles Manson, Jim Jones, The Crusaders, the Knights Templar. They were all religious or pseudo-religious.
I'm not sure about Ted Bundy, Clifford Olsen, John Wayne Gacy, Ed Gien, BTK, etc., they were never affiliated to any religion I know of.

I think Utuk said it all. The big point here is that I doubt that half the peole who killed in the name of Religion were actually that religious, it was usually politically motivated.
And my husband is from Russia and what ever Stalin's personal beliefs he killed people in the name of being an athiest society. Lenin and Trotsky too. They killed priests and nuns and villagers who just wanted to be allowed to believe in God.
Great answer Utuk

There are plenty of atheists who murdered. Stalin, hitler etc. used religion as a way of getting people to follow them. It was just propaganda. That's why it's so sad. Flash religion at people and they'll believe anything you tell them.

Humans are all murderers. Athieists included. I have never murdered a human, but I have murdered a persons reputation. I have killed thousands of ants and anthills (they must have thought they were the target of a massive terrorist attach). I have partaken the meat from murdered animals, I've been "human". Can't help it, must be something genetic.
