I'm a very standoff-ish andshy person, and don't normally get asked out as a result of that. To put it bluntly, I'm 22 and I've never been on a real date; I've never liked anyone who liked me back, and, living in a small southern town, it's rare to meet anyone with a particularly impressive brain. A few weeks back, a guy I went to highschool with found me on myspace, and we started talking. Now, I'm the type to make off the wall jokes and talk like a human thesaurus, and usually that's enough to drive most guys away in a matter of days. Not this guy; his sense of humor is just as warped as mine, and he can keep up his end of an intelligent conversation. We do plan to get together sometime, but as we're both very shy that's a long way off (we discussed it the other night). I do want this to work out, but never having been in a relationship, I start to panic at the thought of this going anywhere. Anyone ever been in a similar situation? How do you keep from sabotaging yourself?

You're sabotaging yourselves already. You two need to meet in person and interact with each other that way. Forget that "shy" nonsense. There isn't any reason why you should not get together to chat. Good luck!

as long as you have something in common you can make it work. being shy is a sign that you are unsure of the outcome of a meeting. try very hard to get over this problem so that you and he will be able to find more common grounds for a relationship. lots of luck. you have no idea how many folks out here are hoping you discover love.
