I need to know the original reason why people have lemon with fish.. Please only answer if your POSITIVE your answer is right. I know its not cause it tastes better or gets rid of odour.. Please help, i need to know asap.. Thanks :)...:)

It does have to do with the taste- the amines coud leave you with an unpleasant taste (personal opinion, I reckon, since I often eat it without lemon).

Lemon juice is typically squeezed onto fish dishes; the acidic juice neutralizes the taste of amines in fish by converting them to nonvolatile ammonium salts.

Lemon has citric acid which reacts with methylamine (a base), the odor compound in fish, forming a salt that does not smell.

sometimes lemon is used with many of d food-stuff coz they may leave rashes on ur tongue as they may hv some proportions of iron, etc more than ur tongue cud resist. it's also used by alergic people!

You've answered your own question. I also think it was to destroy
any bacteria/germs that may be associated with fish food poisoning.
