As an adoptee who has found and met my birth family, I want to address a couple of issues.

1) It is normal for any person to want to know their birth family ... regardless of their circumstances. People who grow uip knowing their birth families cannot understand, becuase they dont have the same experience.

2) Many birthparents WANT to meet and know the children they relinquished for adoption. My birthmother and birthfamily were delighted that I found them and contacted them. My husband felt the same when his birthchild located him.

3) The process to find birth families can be difficult, but don't give up. An answer above gave good advice. Also, put your name on every reunion list you can find online, as well as the International snail mail list. You can find the information for these easily on google (sorry, I lost all my links). (search "adoption reunion") Oregon is the only state I know of where an adopted child can access their original birth certificate simply by applying for it and paying a small fee.

Good Luck!!

Most likely a phone call to the courts if you know the county where you were adopted. Also, there is a resource online that gives state by state information for getting access to records, which are called ''non-identifying'' records (such as medical information, etc.) and ''identifying'' records which include names and numbers. Identifying records in most cases can only be released if your biological parents consent. Lots of people everywhere are working to change these access laws, but that's the way it is for now. Here's the site: http://www.adopting.org/AccessToAdoptionRecords.html
You scroll down to your state and there will be a contact address and phone number; usually a state social services department. In some cases, you will have to obtain the consent of your adoptive parent to get these records. Another good place to start finding biological parents and others is by registering on a number of sites dedicated to getting families back together. Just post as much information as you can, search public records, and utilize people-finding services as well. Finding biological parents may take some time, but its not impossible. Use a methodical approach and all available resources; talk to people and gather as much information as possible. Sooner or later the pieces of the puzzle will start coming together and hopefully a family reunion after finding biological parents and who knows who else.

Google?haha!

this question happens to be very close to my heart I being an adopted child and my children being adopted out... we had it rough, first you need to know what state the birth mom is in, name of birth parent, some where there is sealed record of the info, when your wife turned of age which is 18 she had the right to view these sealed records. she will then have a name, hopefully updated info.... if not then it will be all you have to go on...... do a web search online for the name.... anything i can do to help ya be sure to IM me ok let me know how things work out

First step would be to apply for adoption records and get as much details from that you can.

Join various adoption groups and leave details there saying she'd like to get in touch etc.

If birth surname known then get a copy of original birth certificate as parents names should be on that.

once you have details check out various people finder sites, census reports etc.

Good luck
