i do not find a abandoned mental institute that scary, because i worked in one, years ago. i enjoyed my job, and only think of all the help and kindness, that i, and my co workers gave to those poor unfortunate souls, that were in that building. i have many good memories, and some sad memories. i remember all the patients we had, and how some of them also helped me in my life. i learned that just because you have mental illness, doesn't mean that they do not have the dreams, and hopes that all people have in their life, and people with a mental illness are not lesser people in the world.

Fear might be based on feeling the residual energies of the hospital patients and the staff. Especially an older mental institute where techniques may not have been as humane as in current days. In Tacoma there is an abandoned building that is the old Western State Hospital. There is a definite energy around the building. It is near a lake. When I hear the ducks quacking, I imagine it is the spirits of the former inmates laughing at us.

I find the ones in operation scarier. So much ignorance and mistreatment of patients. It's horrible. I still have nightmares sometimes. Abandoned ones are probably freaky as well but they can't compare in my opinion.

yeah i agree there is an element that would make you fear - but when you think about it logically - whats there to be scared of? ghosts? ghosts are everywhere - nutters? they would have been moved out - intruders? well if that scares ya - you really shouldnt be in there! lol why would you be in one anyway? lol kinda like looking in the face of the devil and expecting him not to get angry lol

Especially the one in the Bronx where they found all the preserved specimens in jars.
