If you have a menorah at your house already, I believe it would be a polite and respectful way of recognizing your friend's faith. If you have to run out and buy one, I myself would probably just not worry too much about it. Simply because it sounds like you're only having one Jewish guest over for the holiday. If there were a few Jewish guests, maybe then go buy one. But most of my Jewish friends are pretty open minded . So they really don't feel out of place at my home where I have a decorated tree.

No, although clearly your heart is in the right place. Hanukkah is kind of like groundhog day or 4th of July to the jews. It's not one of our major holidays. It just seems that way since it is so close to Christmas every year. They are coming to spend your holiday with you, your way. They light the menorah each night at their home with their family. It could seem overly-ingratiating to have a menorah at your home since you are not jewish. It might be kind of like them inviting you over for Passover and erecting a giant inflatable easter bunny on the front lawn because they knew you were Christian. You might find it a bit odd because you have your own inflatable easter bunny (right?). It was nice of you to invite him or her over for Christmas because is that day boring for us jews! Nothing is open!

If your truly concerned that they may take some type of offense to your celebration, the best policy would be to talk to them about it before they come over. Ask them if there is something that you could do to make them more comfortable.
If they've accepted your invitation, however, I'm sure they're aware of the situation and don't mind. Also, unless you're well informed of the Jewish religion, I would avoid making simple and possible "empty" gestures to appease them. It can be considered rude.
Just talk to the person, I'm sure they'll be more than willing to discuss the situation with you.

You're inviting your friend over to participate in your holiday. No need to change anything from what you usually do.
Same goes when your Jewish friend invites you over for Passover or a Jewish holiday.

Wow, that is a nice gesture...
But it's ok, we do not expect you guys to do anything special for us; it might even embarrass him to know that you have had yourself concerned that much for his honor.
Hanukkah is over, so there's no need to light a Menorah anyway...

Question: They knew they were being invited to a "Christmas" dinner?
If so, they accepted.....so no, you need not put out any special Hannuka (sp?) touches. Just make sure if you have any pork in any of your holiday dishes, you let them know.
Have a nice dinner & enjoy the company of your friends & family.

You don't have to do that, and Chanukah is pretty much over. It's okay for Jewish people to visit a christian home, it's really not a problem. They know what to expect. Just one thing: if you pray over dinner, try to pray to God and not to Jesus, that would be a nice touch.

If you had a Hindu over, would you have a Hindu religious symbol out?
I'm very interested in your answer.
If "no", why?
