Youre asking them to do too much, the bible is a thousand pages or more, they dont like it when people tell them what to do, they like telling others what to do because they cant do it themselves, and if they really had a brain they would be Pagan or Atheist.

I make no excuses for when I fail to do as I should as a Christian. I am human and I will fail and I will sin. Only one is perfect.
Do you claim to be an intelligent person? Do you believe and follow everything you read in your science and math books? Have you read any of them cover to cover and memorize them? Do you know what foods are good for you and what you should not eat? Have a Burger at McDonald's lately? How about some Fries? You know your supposed to follow the law in the country you live in. Ever drive a little faster than the limit? No one follows all the laws and social expectations perfectly. Quit asking Christians to do something that is humanly impossible all the while knowing that. Let those that are perfect cast the first stone!

I have read it cover to cover. Some things in it then are either replaced in the new testament as God deals with people under a new system. Some things are particular cultural way in which a principal is observed and as such does not need to be upheld in the current culture.
Another reason that you might be asking this is because some people who claim to be Christians do not in fact follow the teachings of Christ and so by any reasonable definition are not really Christians at all. Indeed some people think that all the west is christian - which is plain wrong. The west is materialistic with a Christian minority, In the case of France and Italy to name to examples Christianity is not even the biggest religious minority.

The Bible is a compilation of books written over thousands of years. It is significant because of what it reveals about God. The biggest mistake is overlooking the fact that the Torah was a civil law, as well as a religious law, and civil law adapts to social and cultural change. The Bible contains doctrine - it was never intended as a set of rules, but a record of a set of rules. The Bible is not God's revelation to man, it is a record of God's revelation to man. It has only been in that last few centuries that Christians have started regarding the Bible as the foundation of Christianity. Traditionally, the Church, as a community, decided on the specifics of religious law, and used the Bible to provide context.

I HAVE read it cover to cover, and just because someone reads it cover to cover does NOT mean they understand it. It is an ongoing process of learning about the Lord, and there is NO ONE on this earth that knows it all. Everytime you read it "cover to cover" you will learn something new. Just as being baptized, you can go under the water a DRY SINNER, and come up a WET SINNER, IF your are not serious about God.

Have you read the thing? It's incredibly boring and everything is written in riddles which can each be interpreted 10 different ways. Give me a break.

The problem with doing this is that you can become like the Pharisee`s who could not see the wood for the trees, Jesus expects only two things, Love God and our Neighbor, now if we truly did this then Christianity would be something to admire and follow.

If you have ever read any form of literature and appreciated it correctly you would know that you never interpret all of it literally or word by word. The Bible have been studied by many theologists over thousands of years and we have their knowledge to rely on as to how to interpret it. Apart from that, thousands of Christians over the ages have experienced communion with God by reading the Bible, which is why we call it the Word of God.

The problem with many 'extreme' christians, is that they do just that, they read every word, and memorise the words parrot fashion, and take them literally, whitout every truly understanding the message.
They can throw out quotes like seeds to us poor unbelievers, and they hope we will rush off to see what James 1:22
is, but few have followed the message themselves, they just like to inflict it on others.
by the way, James 1:22 is 'But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. ' the one I, an athesist, usally throw back at any biblebasher who tries to convert me.
