if he keeps looking at you then catch him once and then ask him for the reason but not in front of others.If he compliments you right there then u can continue the relation with his response or if he tries to escape the ques. then you can ask him for friendship. once u are friends, you'll have much more talks than earlier and then u will easily judge that how much he likes you and depending on that u can set the game

write a note and pass it back and forth in class. this is make him not as shy b/c he doesn't have to talk with you... also make sure no naughty stuff b/c even if the teacher takes it then you can't get busted with everyone knowing your business.
