How old are your children and how much did you spend on them? Did you get into debt to do so or did you save up beforehand?

No I am not asking anyone to show off but I am comparing, obviously, because I wanted to know if the amount I was spending on my child was above or below average. Just so I know if I'm being too stingy, or over the top. Turns out I'm in the middle:)

3 kids - $250 total and other parents are making us feel like %$#@ because thats all we spent. We don't HAVE any more to spend so since my kids like having food and a place to live thats how much we spent this year.
We actually make a very BIG deal about Christmas but it does not center on gifts. Kids will have lots of good memories, thats all that counts.

I have 4 daughters aged 16 , 13 , 10 and 4 and we have spent about £200 on each of them . They got the main pressie they asked for and i bought other bits and pieces for them . 2 of them just had their birthdays 16 + 13 yr old (17th & 21st dec) so that was more money , they only got around £75 spent on them for that although i wish i could have got more for them . Thankfully all my purchases this year have been paid for cash , i didn`t get into debt . We may be on beans and toast til my husband gets paid again lol but we are a happy lot and we just love being together at Christmas , i love seeing their faces especially the younger ones ..
Have a lovely Christmas xx

I have 3 girls, they are 7 (turns 8 just 5 days after christmas) 5 and 2, i spent about $200 on each maybe a little more. They also got a miniture pony he was $450.00. We didnt put ourselves into debt or use credit cards, I had been getting pressies since september. I also thought I didnt spend as much as usuall, we got bigger gifts that cost a little more, then heaps of small stuff. They have about 5/6 to open.

My children are 3 and 8, and we try to spend as near the same amount as possible on each of them. We spend about $100 on each child, with the most expensive present from Santa, a "medium priced" gift from Mommy and Daddy, and a small gift from us as well. The rest is spent on stocking stuffers, which this year is CDs and lipgloss. We make a budget each year for Christmas spending, and stick strictly to it so as not to go over. We also pay for everything with cash, not racking up debt on credit cards. This way, we aren't paying for Christmas until the next one. Kids don't need all that "stuff"... they get enough from their grandparents. We just get them the really special stuff they have on their wish lists and save our money.

This year I've found myself on income support and had to borrow £100 from the social for it. I spent about £60 on my 8 year old daughter and £40 on my 18 month old son. Never again! I'm determined to get a job this coming year. It's not fair on the kids and can't see how people manage that are on I.S long term! I usually spend about £150 on them each and I start saving early on for it.

I spent about £400 on my daughter whose 6 she wanted a nintendo ds lite and about 9 games Which Ive bought on ebay with the money I've made from selling all our rubbish so doesn't feel like real money!and then she's got lots of stocking fillers and my 3 year old boy has had about £300 spent on him although he has only asked for a power ranger outfit!so could have spent as little as £17.00!!.I've bought stuff over the last few months so not noticed it really. My husband will go mad when he sees what I've bought thay always get far too much but nothing is on credit and we both work hard so why not treat them.I 'm more excited then them!

I have 4 kids and my husband and I usually spend $500 on each child. This year we spent a bit more because they are older and it is getting harder to buy them things that they don't have already. This year they items they wanted were more money because they wanted I-pods and such. My 13 year old and my 8 year old usually want close to the same things so it is always buying 2 of the same thing. lol!

in my family the most importat holidays are birthdays, mom can spend up to several thousands euro on each child (by the way I'm 18 (will be 19 on the 24th December), my sisters are 28 and 26), mom never gets into a debt
for christmas we just exchange small presents because we have a very big family
