Yeah, I heard that too.

When I was a child my mum used to have a facsimile edition of the poem 'the Night Before Christmas,' with colour illustrations from the late 19th century. In those, St. Nick (Santa) was depicted as a small, thin, spritely old man - which would suggest the fat theme came along later - but he was dressed in red. I have also seen old illustrations of St. Nick/Santa where he is dressed in green.
So I'm not too sure about how much of it is down to Coca-Cola. It could be that he's depicted differently in different parts of the world, so the Santa we know today is a sort of composite of all these. The 'Coca-Cola' Santa seems to have become the accepted model though.

It is true that the red theme comes from Coke. Never heard about the fat, but could be. Originally Santa used to wear different colours in different cultures, mainly green and/or grey.

Its true about them making him red from green, not sure if the fat bit is true though.

Have you seen Santa Clause the Movie, he was green in that at the start and they changed him to red as reference to the Coke thing

He's not real. If you don't like the idea of a fat red santa imagine a skinny green one.

Yes it is true. As for sugar in coke, they haven't used sugar for years, back when a coke was really good.
