He was Both! He was also both a man and God.
He was born a Jew, and he taught that he did not take away from this, only add to it. Most of the early christians were Jews and they did not say that they were no longer Jews.
Clearly the beliefs of Jesus were those of the Christians today more then that of the Jews. The Jews killed him for his "blasphemous" beliefs. So he was not a traditional Jew - but back then there were several different groups of Jews who did not get along. The romans kicked them out of Rome at one stage calling them a sect of the Jews.
Mainly Jesus was God come as a man to reveal to us the ways of God.

Definitely a Jew. His early followers can also be said to have been Jewish (they envisaged Jesus as the culmination of Jewish history, not as breaking with that religious tradition). It was only when their teachings were rejected by many Jews that Christianity as such was formed. For example, see in the Bible where Peter wants to keep Christianity as a religion for Jews only, whereas Paul represents the (more radical) desire to spread Christianity to the Gentiles. So Peter wanted the worship of Jesus to be confined to Jews. They ultimately wanted Christianity to replace Judaism (believed that faith in Jesus was the only 'true' Judaism).

Hi, Jesus was actually a Judean , the term Jew was not known in His time but came much later due to mis-pronouncations while copying the Bible into Greek and then Latin.
The mane Christian was not used until the early 2nd century by people in Antioch, but to avoid confusion I would just go with Jew.

Christ as well as everyone else who wrote the Bible was a Jew. People were NOT started being called Christians (Christ Man) until the teaching came to Antioch. Please read the Book of Acts with your son and it will explain it there. The first 6 Chapters. It will not take very long, and be sure to do cross referencing in your Bible. It will give you the info in the margins.

Jesus was a Jew. The term Christian was used to describe the followers of Christ and it's Greek origin literally means "Little Christ" and was first used some time after His death and resurection in Antioch to describe Jesus's disciples.

He was a Jew by birth. Persons that follow Jesus are called Christians because Jesus title as Christ which means anointed one. So persons that accept Jesus ransom Scarface for sins, are followers of the anointed one Jesus who was sent by his Father , Almighty God, or YHWH. etc.... Jehovah. what you will.
