Being a hospitality manager i find it extremely frustrating that people can just walk off the street and go to a restaurant and feel like they can do whatever they want and obnoxious and rude as they want. I think people need to realize that people who work in restaurant, bars, etc. are providing a service and ARE NOT servants!

I used to be a waitress and I hated customers like that... now I'm a customer and I'm rude everywhere I go... If someone is nice and polite to me then thats fine... I'll be very friendly and leave big tips etc... but now I find I criticise staff much more than I ever would have. I know how long it takes to do things like make coffee and stuff and if I think someone is wasting time I really don't have a problem picking them up on it. I know how hard I worked and I would have been sacked in a second if I treated customers the way some people do. I also realize that some people are just snobs and wouldn't know real work if it jumped up and bit them... let alone know what it's like to do something like washing dishes for 5 hours after you just spent the whole day serving the unappreciative upperclass. So I feel i've earnt my right to be rude. So... next time a customer is rude you have 2 options... 1. Are you being rude to them? If so, lift your game. And 2. Are they just a snob? If so, spit in their food.

I don't know, but as a former server and hostess, I wish they'd stop.

One of the worst, most inconsiderate (not to mention dangerous) things people do is allow their children to get up and run around. I understand the difficulty of keeping a child in a seat at times. But it is simply unacceptable to allow a child to get up and play. All it takes is ONE server with a hot tray who can't see your child on the floor. Burns, concussions, deep cuts...I've seen it all. Not to mention that is is rude to other patrons.

On another note, some people THINK they are being considerate when they see you approach with a hot tray and try to "help" by grabbing things off of it for you. This upsets the VERY delicate balance and can bring the whole tray crashing down. I know the intention can be good, but it is very dangerous and unappreciated.

Wow, I wrote a novel. Sorry. lol

Because the people that do this think that you are there to serve
only them. I used to work in restaurants myself and I know how
you feel. I have a strong dislike for the RUDE IDIOTS that think
that just because you are working in a restaurant they can lord over you and yell at you like they own you. I think that if these people would spend a day in your shoes they may, by some
miracle, learn to respect the people that are working so hard to
make their dining experience a pleasing one.

I have no idea if you're smelly, but if you're a regular smoker the answer is probably yes. By your attitude in your post, you're definitely inconsiderate, bordering on rude, and only "an absolute moron" could be unaware that the smell of smoke can trigger asthma attacks in some people. Smokers don't bother me if they take it outside. People with a chip on their shoulder get on my nerves.

If a person feels they need to be rude to a waiter then they are not much of a person at all.

The waiter is just doing a job to earn money to buy things like the rest of us and like the rest of us deserves a little respect for their important role in our communities.

It is because of their good work that we all enjoy a meal without the need to either prepare it, serve it or clean up after it.

I have never been a waiter and I don't think I could be because if someone was rude to me they may end up wearing the overpriced bottle of red wine they just ordred.

it is a psychological ego thing..many people are frustrated in the real world with their boss, wife, co-worker, customer and they take it out on hospitality workers because that is the only location where they feel they are superior than the service worker...
dont take it personally, i have seen waitresses in high end restaurants cry behind closed doors because the customer make some demeaning comments trying to test her limit of patience and emotional stability.
if you ever get irritated of a customer...just smile back and pretend you are looking at a monkey making faces at you....

the image will immediately ease your tension and make your day go by much easier.

I've come to the understanding that people aren't allowed to act out at home or at their jobs so when they go to a place where the "customer is number one" they feel like they are the kings. All of a sudden people have to wait on them and make them happy.

It really don't have anything to do with being in a restaurant rude people are like that everywhere and it just reflects on their low self esteem.

I didn't know it was an excuse to be rude. I try to be nice to the servers, even bad ones. I know what it is like to try to serve people. I cut hair for years. Just mess with someone's hair and you'll see how mean people can get.

I don't think being in the restaurant has anything to do with it. These people are probably rude wherever they go.
